NFL to Fine Favre Over Illicit Texts

By Newsroom America Staff at 29 Dec 2010

(Newsroom America) -- The NFL is expected to fine Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre for allegedly sending illicit text messages and photos to former New York Jets gameday hostess Jen Sterger.

Fox Sports reported Wednesday the fine could come today but if not than probably no later than Thursday. It is expected to be about $50,000, the report said.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell isn't likely to suspend Favre, who reportedly sent the texts and photos to Sterger when they were both employees of the Jets in 2008. The messages and pictures were obtained and published by Deadspin.com in October, and included photos reportedly of Favre's genitalia.

Favre, 41, has spent the past two seasons with the Vikings.

The NFL investigated the case up until last week and had wanted to issue a ruling before New Year's, during the current regular season.

Favre has indicated he will retire for good following the regular season, which ends Jan. 2. Minnesota has been eliminated from post-season play.

The aging quarterback has been out for the past two weeks after suffering a concussion in a game at home against the Chicago Bears. He may start for what would be his last NFL appearance in Detroit this weekend if he is cleared to play.
