The Wall Street Journal lead headline online early Monday morning says "BHP Drops Potash Bid." The paper says BHP Billiton withdrew its $38.6 billion offer for Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan, putting an end to one of the biggest and most-contentious takeover battles in recent years.

The paper says the Wall Street Journal's latest CEO pay survey shows top players include Liberty's Gregory B. Maffei, Occidental's Ray Irani and Oracle's Larry Ellison.

It says Europe's debt crisis entered a critical new phase as Ireland resisted pressure from the European Central Bank and national governments to seek a bailout amid growing concern that the currency bloc could unravel.

The paper says Goldman has hit a delay in its efforts to win U.S. approval to repay a $5 billion investment from Berkshire Hathaway because the Fed first wants to hammer out guidelines on bank dividend increases.

It says U.S. investors have long been reluctant to embrace dividend stocks, but there are some signs investors are growing more attentive to payouts.

And the most popular story says Manny Pacquiao won by unanimous decision over Antonio Margarito Saturday night in Arlington, Texas, adding to his list of titles and further cementing his claim as the world's top boxer.
