A Houston woman injured by a bomb disguised as a box of chocolates has reportedly been revealed as the wife of an oil company executive.
ABC13 Eyewitness News reported that someone left what appeared to be a box of chocolates on the porch of the woman's house with her misspelt name and a "Thank You" note on it.
Neighbors said when the woman opened the package it exploded, pelting her face with nails and tacks and causing damage to nearby furniture. The woman, aged in her 60's, is said to be in a stable condition after undergoing surgery.
Police have not released the woman's name, but a web site using Google Street view and "a publicly available database" claimed the home belongs to an executive of a Texas oil company.
Online speculation has focussed on whether the bombing is linked to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, however authorities have released no evidence of this nor even discussed such a scenario.
ABC13 Eyewitness News said it had been told it was no "kid's bomb" and reportedly included batteries and wires and was "quite professional-looking."
Police have not yet released any possible motive for the attack.
