White House to Announce 'Accomodation' to Contraceptive Rule

By Newsroom America Staff at 10 Feb 2012

(Newsroom America) -- Under fire from Christian and Catholic groups, the White House on Friday will announce some sort of accommodation regarding the administration's new rule forcing religious organizations to offer health insurance that fully covers birth control services, ABC News reported.

The announcement should come later this afternoon, and could be made by President Obama himself, the report said.

However, the White House's position is not likely to satisfy Catholic bishops and other religious leaders opposed to the new Health and Human Services regulation, sources told ABC News, because the administration will probably "preserve the goal of women employees having their birth control fully covered by health insurance," the report said.

The announcement is likely to be mindful and respectful of religious beliefs, "but will not back off from that goal, which many religious leaders oppose since birth control is in violation of their religious beliefs," ABC News reported.
