(Newsroom America) -- Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took home his first NFL Most Valuable Player award during the league's maiden "Honors" show Saturday night.
The award was presented by Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning, a four-time MVP recipient, on the eve of the league's biggest game of the season - the Super Bowl - and one in which each of the star QB's has won.
"We're all excited to see you back on the field next year," Rodgers told Manning, a reference to being cleared to play this week by doctors following his recovery from a series of neck surgeries last year that kept him out of the entire 2011 season.
Meanwhile, New Orleans Saints signal-caller Drew Brees, fresh off a single-season record 5,476 passing yards, won the league's Offensive Player of the Year award, as Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford won the honor of Comeback Player of the Year after guiding his team to the playoffs for the first time in a generation.
Other awards included Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs as Defensive Player of the Year; Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton as Offensive Rookie of the Year; and Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller won for Defensive Player of the Year.
The league also announced its 2012 Hall of Fame class Saturday. Inductees included: Curtis Martin, running back for the New York Jets and New England Patriots; as well as Chris Doleman, Cortez Kennedy, Willie Roaf, Dermontti Dawson, and senior selection Jack Butler.
