Most Americans Looking Forward to Spring Cleaning: Survey

(Newsroom America) -- Now that spring is in the air, what are most Americans planning to do? Clean up, according to a new survey.

Rasmussen Reports, in results published Friday, found that 72 percent of American adult respondents said come springtime, they'll be cleaning up and organizing around the house, an unofficial annual event for millions of us.

In fact, the trend seems to be increasing. In a similar survey last year, Rasmussen found that 68 percent of respondents said they'd do some spring cleaning.

Besides getting the house and garage back into shape, a healthy majority of Americans said they had a green thumb; 59 percent said they planned to garden this year, compared with 37 percent who said they wouldn't.

Spring is certainly not a time of travel for most Americans, Rasmussen said. Only 23 percent of respondents said they'd be taking a vacation, while almost three-in-four said they'd be staying home - probably to clean, if the survey's results are any indication.

This time of year is also good for our psyche, it seems. Almost one-third of us (31 percent) rate spring as our favorite time of year, but more than double that figure - 66 percent - say they're in a better mood come springtime.

Thirty-two percent say the next season, summer, is their favorite, while 28 percent said fall. Not many Americans - only 6 percent - think winter is their most favorite season, the survey found.

The poll was conducted with 1,000 adults nationwide on March 21-22. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 points and a 95 percent level of confidence. Rasmussen said all of its survey field work is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
