AVO Bogoslof ORANGE/WATCH - No unusual activity observed in seismic, infrasound or satellite data this week.

5:07 pm Eastern | SciTech

May 26, 2017 20:54 - No unusual activity has been detected in seismic, infrasound or satellite data since the explosive eruption on May 16 (May 17 UTC). Though the volcano is currently quiet, renewed activity could occur at any time and could include additional explosive events and/or effusion of a lava dome. Lower-level eruptive activity may also occur that is below our ability to detect in seismic, infrasound, or satellite data sources, and could generate hazardous phenomena in the immediate vicinity of the volcano. We continue to use infrasound (pressure) sensors from nearby Umnak ...read more »

AVO Cleveland ORANGE/WATCH - No unusual activity detected this week.

5:07 pm Eastern | U.S. News

May 26, 2017 20:54 - No unusual activity has been detected in seismic or infrasound data since the short-duration, explosive eruption on May 16 (May 17 UTC). Conditions have been mostly cloudy over the past week, however, occasional clear webcam views of the summit have shown steam emissions. Satellite imagery from last night suggest possible elevated surface temperatures at the summit while images from today show no change in the crater morphology since May 16. Cleveland volcano is monitored with a limited real-time seismic network, which inhibits AVO's ability to detect precursory ...read more »

May 25, 2017 19:25 - No significant volcanic activity was observed at Bogoslof volcano in seismic, infrasound, or satellite data over the past day. Bogoslof volcano remains at a heightened state of unrest and in an unpredictable condition. Activity may ramp back up with additional explosions producing high-altitude (>15,000 ft) volcanic clouds with little precursory activity. Some previous explosions have been preceded by an increase in earthquake activity that allowed for short-term forecasts of imminent significant explosive activity. Although we are able to detect energetic explosive ...read more »

Our ongoing commitment to support computer science educators in Europe

25 May 04:15 | Media

The need for employees with computer science (CS) and coding skills is steadily increasing in Europe—by 4 percent every year between 2006 and 2016 according to DigitalEurope.  But educators are struggling to keep up with the demand, often because they lack the professional development, confidence and resources to successfully teach their students. Because of these challenges, we’re working to increase the availability of quality computer science education and access to CS skills by empowering CS teachers globally. We’ve recently launched new support in Europe, the Middle East and Africa through CS4HS, a program to fund universities and nonprofits designing and delivering rigorous computer science professional development for teachers.read more »
