The San Diego Chapter is working for You

By Newsroom America Feeds at 20 Dec 2017

Dear Lynne,

If you're like me, one of the reasons you live in the San Diego region is because of its great weather, beaches, the desert, our wild places, mountain forests, abundant wildlife, and the freedom to enjoy this beauty.

You know that these places are always under threat by special interests, but this feels different. There's a belligerence and short-sightedness I've never seen before.Denial seems everywhere. Denial of climate change, denial of the necessity of clean energy, denial that our lands and wildlife are in danger, denial of environmental justice. And now these same deniers have powerful friends in Washington. But that's why we're here. Your investment in the Sierra Club's San Diego Chapter protects our local land and water from these threats and preserves the beauty of the San Diego region for you, your family, friends and neighbors.

We can't let the future of the San Diego region be endangered because those in Washington refuse to accept the facts or face the reality of what is happening to our natural world. We must speak often and effectively about the need to ensure our open spaces are protected from bad planning and developments, that the harmful effects of climate change are adequately addressed, and the importance of clean energy alternatives if we are to secure the health of our region. To help beat back the deniers and other threats to the environment, please make a year-end donation to the San Diego Chapter right now.

In 2018, we know a host of issues will be at the forefront:

- The County of San Diego and many of its Cities are in the process of developing their Climate Action Plans. We need to ensure these plans incorporate effective, enforceable, and comprehensive greenhouse gas reduction measures. - Cleaner, cheaper, healthier energy is here. It's time for our elected leaders to commit to 100% clean and renewable energy for all. - The passage of Assembly Bill 805 will alter the balance of power on the San Diego Association of Governments, which is responsible for the regions long-term transportation planning, in ways that will favor increased investment in public transit. - Development proposals abound and will continue to increase as we grapple with the need for more affordable housing in the region. We need your investment to sustain and strengthen our ability to be the voice for citizens who support a clean and healthy environment. Can you help?

In the spirit of the holiday season, I hope you will consider making a generous year-end gift that will help position us for continued success in 2018. And if you've already given this year, thank you so much.
