SPC Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0116 PM CST Sat Feb 24 2018 Valid 251200Z - 261200Z ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS... Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are likely across much of the southern High Plains on D2/Sun. The critical area highlights locations where 20+ mph are expected in conjunction with single-digit to 15% RH values. Farther south into areas of west Texas (near the Pecos River Valley), locally critical fire weather conditions are possible although fuels still appear to be unfavorable for fire spread except for on a localized basis. This region will continue to be monitored in coming days as fuels continue to dry. ..Cook.. 02/24/2018 .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0157 AM CST Sat Feb 24 2018/ ...Synopsis... Conditions will be similar on Sunday as those on Saturday across the southern High Plains. A shortwave trough will traverse the southern Rockies and gusty downslope west/southwest surface winds will develop. Sustained wind speeds of 15-25 mph with higher gusts are expected, though wind speeds will be a bit lower than on Saturday as the surface pressure gradient is weaker. RH values will fall into the upper single digits to upper teens. Critical conditions are forecast again across parts of east-central NM into the TX South Plains where the best overlap of critical meteorological conditions and dry fuels is expected. A larger area of more borderline conditions is expected from southeast CO into western and southwestern TX. ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product... Read more
