Office of the Spokesperson
February 11, 2014
Secretary Kerry’s Special Representative for Global Partnerships Andrew O’Brien will participate in a Google+ Hangout on “Partnership Opportunity Delegations: Creating Connections and Finding Solutions” at 2:00 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, February 12, 2014.
The Hangout will also feature representatives from across the private sector, including Mickey Bergman, Executive Director of the Global Alliances Program at the Aspen Institute, Natalie Pregibon, Director of P3 Intelligence at the Concordia Summit, and Mary Kane, President and CEO of Sister Cities International.
The participants will discuss the State Department’s new public-private initiative, Partnership Opportunity Delegations (PODs) and the recent inaugural POD to Ireland and Northern Ireland that focused on creating potential partnership opportunities that aim to boost Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, promote entrepreneurship, and increase overall economic growth. Participants will discuss how public-private partnerships can provide solutions to global challenges.
Through PODs, the U.S. Department of State and partners will work to bring together the public and private sectors, civil society, and the academic community to create new connections and facilitate new markets. The delegations will help to cultivate and enable partnership opportunities in communities of mutual interests. Delegations will meet with local public and private leaders to discuss partnership opportunities focused on investment and economic development. These exchanges aim to provide unique insight and networks and inspire collaboration that will bring innovations to market. To learn more about the POD initiative click here.
The Hangout will be broadcast live on the Department of State’s YouTube channel and Google+ page. Follow @StateDept and @GPIatState on Twitter for more information.
