More Ice And Snow On The Way For The UK

(Newsroom America) - The UK Met Office says the wintry weather is expected to continue over the next few days as Atlantic weather systems stall as they move across the UK, bringing the mix of rain, sleet and snow.

Freezing rain and ice are expected to be a hazard across northern England and parts of Scotland. This will make pavements and roads very icy in places, and driving conditions could become extremely hazardous, particularly where roads are untreated.

Snow is forecast for east and northeast England later on Thursday, spreading to central and some western parts of England and east Wales on Friday.

Tim Hewson, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office said snow is expected across parts of the country later Thursday and Friday.

"However, the Atlantic weather system bringing the mix of rain, sleet and snow is due to stall over the UK and we find ourselves in the battleground Britain scenario once again.

"Whilst there is uncertainty regarding where the heaviest and most persistent snow will fall, accumulations of up to about 10cm are possible in the worst affected regions. As a result there could be some disruption to travel."

The Met Office is working closely with government departments, contingency planners and transport agencies to make sure they have the best advice available to help them prepare for possible weather impacts.
