COLUMBIA, Mo. — At approximately 1:50 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7, University of Missouri students, faculty and staff who have registered their cell phone numbers with the University’s mass notification system will receive a test text message. The text message is part of a regular test of the system by University officials. Students, faculty and staff also will receive a mass email on their university email accounts with the same message. Cell phone users will be asked to acknowledge receipt of the message.

The message will read:
“This is a test of the MU emergency notification system on 2/7/2012. This is only a test. Please reply ‘Received.’”

“If any faculty, staff or students do not receive a text message, it’s important that they register their mobile devices with the notification system,” said Katie Whitman, project specialist at MU. “For information on how to register, please visit mualert.missouri.edu. This system gives us one more tool that we can use in case of an emergency on campus.”

University officials expect to test the system periodically.
