CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Presidential rhetoric expert John Murphy, a professor of communication at the University of Illinois, is available for comment following President Obama’s State of the Union speech Tuesday night.

Murphy has written extensively about the speechmaking and rhetoric of John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. His article on Obama’s 2008 campaign rhetoric was recently published in the Quarterly Journal of Speech.

For a sense of Murphy in print and on camera, a release on the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s inaugural address can be found here: http://illinois.edu/lb/article/72/47117. A video is linked from the release.

To reach Murphy, call 217-359-5715 (home);
